Telehealth and Telemedicine systems are not new to the healthcare industry. The tech was first widely discussed in 1879, in a Lancet report. Since then the tech has evolved and adapted to the needs of the time.

Telemedicine has changed healthcare for the better. It is the most promising tech that has been developed in the healthcare-tech industry. When people think of telemedicine, most of the time they conclude that it will replace conventional in-person visits.

This is not true (at least not yet..), telemedicine at its best is used as an aid that enables hospitals and health systems function more effectively & efficiently.  Telemedicine has allowed smaller rural clinics to network with large hospitals and use it as a medium to share resources.

This way the clinics are now equipped to provider better care.

It is absolutely indispensable during times of natural disasters (ex: Hurricane Harvey (2017)), it allows providers to reach their patients more quickly and it helps in refocusing their efforts on patients who are in critical state.

In case of a simple consultation, people no longer have to wait in the waiting room, they can easily consult their physicians from the comforts of their home. It has been of significant help to patients who worry about the stigma, attached to their ailments, for ex: sometimes a patient might want to consult a therapist cause of their depression, but might not feel comfortable to acknowledge it yet, for them telemedicine provides an additional layer of privacy.

Telemedicine on the whole has improved people’s lives and has propelled healthcare to a more optimised level.
