Potential essays topics/prompts (choose one): 1. Address the following prompt: Using examples from Slavery by Another Name and your textbook, address the following: Exposs of the convict labor system described it as worse than slavery. Address the following prompt: Using examples from Slavery by Another Name and your textbook, address the following: What were some of the specific industries that used convict labor and how did the contributions of forced labors who played a role in helping to industrialize America? 3. Write a traditional prcis AND address the following question: PART 1 – A prcis, is a short paper or an academic abstract that addresses a books argument, scope, and methodology as clearly and concisely as possible. For this assignment it will be no longer than 2 double-spaced pages of the total 4 pages for this assignment. PART 2 Address the following: How does Blackmons book help us to understand the continued mass-incarceration of people of color in the 21st century? For this option BOTH parts must be completed. Each will be about two pages in length. 4. Surprise me. Develop your own argument using evidence from the book. (This must be pre-approved.) Format: 4 pages, double spaced-no more, no less (between 1100 and 1300 words) 10 or 12-point font (something easy to read) Standard written English One inch margins on all sides Must include a bibliography with the textbook and Slavery by Another Name properly cited. Content: Your paper must have a main idea/thesis/argument. It cannot be ONLY a summary of the reading. Your paper must be carefully edited. Grammar, punctuation, and spelling count. No paper will receive and A if it has more than 5 writing errors. Cultivate your own voice/style. You will be writing a lot of papers in college, so find your voice. This does not mean the papers are about you. Do not write about yourself. This is not a research paper, you do not need to consult anything except Slavery by Another Name AND your textbook. However, if you do consult any other sources you MUST include them in your bibliography (along with the two books listed above, which must be in your bibliography).
