Race & Ethnicity in Sport Movie Essay

Directions: Choose a film from the list below and prepare a written, 3-4 page critique that discusses or depicts of historical or current issues involving race/ethnicity and sport. Your critique must include answers to the following questions in specific detail and use examples from the film, your textbook, and lecture notes, and other sources to support your answers. These questions should be incorporated into one organized essay. All essays must be typed in 12 point, Times New Roman font, on pages with 1 inch margins. You must include a cover page with your name, EID, Date, and Title. When you are citing sources, be sure to use APA style in-text citations and include a Reference list in APA style.

2. In class we discussed that race is a social construction, not based on biological classifications. How does the movie emphasize and support this contention?  Explain and give specific examples.

4. How have sports changed since the era depicted in your film? How have they not changed? Are some of the issues raised in the film still present?
5. Scholars argue that racial and ethnic issues require regular attention if challenges are to be anticipated accurately and dealt with successfully. Success also depends on whether members of the dominant ethnic population see value in racial and ethnic diversity and commit themselves to dealing with diversity issues alongside those with different ethnic backgrounds.”   List examples in the film of such “regular attention” and examples of where members of the dominant ethnic population committed themselves to diversity issues.
