One of the goals of the long review assignment is to encourage you to see yourself as an opinion maker, a thought leader, in your field and on your subject. That’s an important step in launching your career and in becoming a more confident writer & speaker. Another goal is to contribute to a larger cultural conversation that surrounds your individual topic. To these ends, you should think of your review less as a college paper and more as an article, the sort of review that you might encounter in a publication, either in print or on line.
For this homework, you should identify two possible publications that might accept your article. For each, write a short paragraph explaining why that would be a good fit. Here are some things to consider:
What kinds of articles does this publication run?
Who makes up the audience for this publication?
What’s the feel of the publication? (is it new, hip, artsy, DIY, something else altogether …?)
What attracts you to this one for your particular ideas & topic?
Try to be as specific as possible; trouble answering this question might indicate that this isn’t really the right publication or venue for your writing.
