JULIAN Imitative Writing Assignment

After reading selected works by David Foster Wallace, you should have a decent grasp of his writing style. Your job now is to imitate his style in your own piece of narrative nonfiction. In a minimum 500-word essay, you will write about a personal experience in a way that mirrors Wallace’s writing.

Consider the following elements as you write:

• Wallace’s blend of formal and colloquial language.
• The way he “pulls back the curtain” to reveal ironies and absurdities in everyday situations.
• His use of self-deprecating humour.
• His observations of deeper truths found in ordinary situations.
