Reaction Paper Assignment (Practice Behavior 2.1.1:2 and 2.1.1:3) Each student in this course will write a five page reaction paper based on a personal experience with a social work issue, a social work practitioner, or a social work experience. The student must describe/define the experience, note the social work issue(s) and the student’s reactions to these issues in this experience, and discuss how this experience broadened the student’s perspectives on this issue. Specifically, the student must provide a reflection on how this experience required both personal reflection AND areas where self-correction are needed for him or herself for professional development (Practice Behavior 2.1.1:2). Also, students must discuss how social workers must attend to professional roles and boundaries and how that may be difficult for them (Practice Behavior 2.1.1:3). Acceptable experiences for this paper include: a student interviews a social worker at his/her job site to learn about his/her field of practice; a student observes a support group meeting (e.g. Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Stroke Support Group, Cancer Support Group, etc.); a student attends a seminar or activity that addresses a social work/social welfare issue (e.g. social justice, poverty, discrimination, racism, discrimination, sexual assault, child/elder abuse and neglect, etc.); a student may attend a campus event (e.g. a MLK, Jr. event) that encourages understanding of and an appreciation for the contributions of an individual who was/is active in efforts to address issues of social or economic justice. Please consult with the instructor for help in completing this assignment or in choosing a suitable experience for this assignment. This paper must conform to APA style (6th Edition) guidelines. This paper is worth 20 points. It is due April 12th. (CO # 1, 4, 5, & 6).
