1.       Three springs are arranged in parallel like the configuration shown in Figure 3-1(b). They have spring rates k1 = 50 N/mm, k2= 150 N/mm, and k= 500 N/mm, respectively. Determine the total spring rate, the force carried by each spring, and the overall deflection if a load of = 600 N is applied.

2.       A spring made from ASTM A228 wire with ends squared and ground, wire diameter = 3 mm, outside diameter D= 27 mm, 14 total coils, and free length Lf = 80 mm has been chosen for an application. Determine the static safety factor if the spring is subjected to a static load of 175 N.
