* Who organized the Mississippi Summer Freedom Project?  Why?  Why do you suppose that so many northern college students — most of them white — left the safety of their homes in the North and took part in this effort in Mississippi?  This seems quite brave to me.  Why did they do it? * What did African Americans in Mississippi think of the white volunteers who took part in the project?  Why?  What were the advantages and disadvantages of bringing white northern volunteers to a place like Mississippi in 1964?  Why was this a “risky” — but also a very shrewd — move on the part of the organizers of the project?  THINK. * Why were voter registration and political organizing the focus of freedom summer?  Why did the project also include freedom schools? (Assigned pages in chapter 26 + Document 26.5 + assigned video segments.)
