Women’s Studies in the academic community

Discuss why Women’s Studies emerged in the academic community. Refer to at least three learning resources assigned for this week in your response. Below is a link for one of the learning resources, and two more are attached. Please make sure you use these.

• What need in the university does Women’s Studies seek to fulfill?
• What need in society as a whole is Women’s Studies responding to? Specifically at the time Women’s Studies emerged in the late 1960s and 1970s? Today?
• How has Women’s Studies changed the way we think about academic research? The world?
• What is the value of Women’s Studies for students, scholars, and universities?
• How does the scholarship produced in Women’s Studies affect (or potentially affect) our world outside the university?
• Why are Women’s Studies programs inherently interdisciplinary? Mention one discipline that seems especially influential within Women’s Studies, and tell us why.
• What does it mean to “claim” an education? Why is this a particularly useful concept for understanding the role of Women’s Studies in the university?
