Gender Differences at Work

Training Program Design Project Purpose: This activity assesses your comprehension of course materials and achievement of course objectives. Guidelines: You have been hired to consult at a large corporation about gender issues at work. The task involves writing a proposal that details your training course designed to help the employees deal with gender issues at work and reflecting on how your course will improve understanding and ways of relating among employees to benefit the corporation. Before you can design the program and write the proposal, you will have to do a fact-gathering visit. Men and women at the corporation have gathered to discuss their observations, experiences, and concerns regarding gender relations at work. The participants in your training course will represent management at all levels as well as diverse administrative, technical, and intern personnel. During your fact-gathering, you ask participants to introduce themselves and to state the problems they have noticed at work. You will have12 diverse individuals attend your training. Give each individual a name (in an actual real-world situation, you would use a pseudonym) and identify him or her in your report with details including age, gender, ethnicity, and position (power level) at the corporation. Each participant’s identity descriptor should include a statement of the problems he or she has perceived at work. In response to the problems the participants have presented and other information you have gathered during your fact-finding visit, create a three-part course. Your course sessions should be designed to help participants better understand gender. For each session, do the following: Give the session title (focus of the session). State the session’s objective or objectives State the participant problem(s) you will address in this specific session. Summarize at least two more peer reviewed journal articles as well as module resources relevant to the issue for the session. Describe the activity for the session which should directly address one of the concerns you heard on the fact-gathering visit. We learn from each other when we listen and reflect on the experiences of others. Create and describe an activity that will promote discussion among your participants. (You do not want the same activity in each session. You need different activities for each. Each session should focus on a different issue raised in the fact-gathering. That means you cannot just do a discussion in each session.) This description of each session will be part of the final report. Your goal for the training program is for participants to gain the knowledge and skills they need to return to work and effectively contribute to an environment that promotes respect, gender awareness, and efforts to balance power among men and women. You will write a proposal in which you describe the three (3) training sessions as well as describe four to six specific changes that would address the concerns presented by your training participants and the company. You also need to explain how you will evaluate your program. Remember you are making a case to the executives for why they should use your program. This will not look like a traditional research paper. However, you are expected to use APA format for the title page, the headings, in-text citations and reference list..
