Rhetorical Analysis

 

 

750-word rhetorical analysis of Jennifer Baichwal, Edward Burtynsky, and Nicholas de Pencier’s film
Anthropocene: The Human Epoch (2018) and/or one of the other texts we read/watch/listen to in relation to it.
In this short academic essay you will focus on the rhetorical situation (author, audience, genre, context, and
purpose) and strategies employed by the film or other text. Think of rhetoric here in terms of who, what, when,
where, why, and how: who (author and audience), what (genre), when and where (context), why (purpose), and
how (rhetorical strategies). I recommend approaching this analysis by first asking a critical question of the film
or other text, applying pressure to some part of it that stands out to you. For example, how does the use of
narrative as a rhetorical strategy in the film complement its reliance on Burtynsky’s style of large-scale aerial
photography
