This essay should consists of 3-4 pages (word count minimum 750
and maximum 1,000 words) formatted according to MLA guidelines). This assignment requires
students to write an analytical essay, which is a persuasive essay that analyzes an issue, a character,
theme, conflict, problem, or other issue from any literary work (as assigned) that we discussed.
Students can use multiple literary works to compare/contrast an issue, problem, etc. As the reader, I
should be able to discern the main point, or thesis, of the essay’s argument in the first paragraph.
Essays should consist of a developed argument, one that develops its thesis by offering and
discussing evidence taken from the literary work or works under examination. Make sure the paper is
full of relevant evidence. Evidence consists of quotations from and descriptions of the literary work.
A well-developed argument discusses this evidence, in depth, in ways that clarify the topic and
advance the thesis. Please ensure that you include parenthetical citations. Please note: Each body
paragraph must contain a main idea or topic sentence that identifies the aspect of the thesis the paragraph will discuss.
