Final Paper
This class is meant to provide a critical approach to international law in the TWAIL (Third World Approaches to International Law) tradition. In order to better understand the contemporary impact of these legacies, you are expected to explore a modern-day issue of your choice and to examine it through a TWAIL lens in a final paper. You can also choose to build on and develop research you completed for the class presentation.
You are free to critique and rebut the TWAIL approach for an optimal alternative. You must communicate your ideas clearly using proper research methods. The paper should:
• Present a cogent argument articulated in a thesis statement
• Draw on at least 2 scholarly books and 6 scholarly articles
• Cite work properly in the footnotes or in the document using MLA or Chicago format
• Include a bibliography
• Be 2,500-4,000 words (10-16 pages double spaced) including a bibliography and citations
Grading Rubric
• Present a cogent argument articulated in a thesis statement: 20 points
• Develop an analysis to support your thesis statement that is supported by scholarly citations: 20 points
• Proper essay format featuring an introduction, conclusion, and supporting paragraphs: 10 points
• Meets all research requirements (number of scholarly citations and bibliography): 25 points
• Grammar/Spelling, Proper Citations, and Word Length: 25 points
