Vignettes are short, narratives that capture a moment in time. They usually do not follow the form of typical narrative stories or pieces. They are emotional (funny, scary, angering, sad, exuberant, or whimsical) but not overly maudlin. In fact, every page in The House on Mango Street is a vignette. The whole book is made of them. Some teach implied lessons while others are simply reminiscent.

For this writing assignment, you will write 3-4 vignettes of your own for a total of 3-4 pages. Feel free to write about whatever you choose but they must follow the style of a vignette. Those who had 1102 with me before should already know how to do this. I will attach a set of examples to this post. Pattern your vignettes after the examples in form but not in content. Please do not share my vignettes as they are personal and copyrighted. Between my examples and Cisnero’s entire book, you have ample examples. Do a good job, please.
